Halloween Read-A-Thon Wrap Up

Halloween Read-A-Thon was hosted by Lauren @ WonderlessReviews and it took place from the 10th to the 31st of October.

By the way, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Unfortunately I didn't do so well, mostly because life happened but I did my best.

During this read-a-thon I read 2 novels, 80% of a short story collection and a graphic novel which was not in my plans but I'm still counting it in since it had a creepy factor. Full reviews for the books I read will come eventually.

Review: The Madman's Daughter

Source: Goodreads

Title: The Madman's Daughter
Series: The Madman's Daughter #1
Author: Megan Shepherd
Publisher: Balzer + Bray

My Rating:

Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London, working as a maid and trying to forget the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumours about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he's alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she's determined to find out if the accusations were true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward, Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the secret of her father's new life: He experiments on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans.

Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius - and madness - in her own blood.

September Haul

I have decided to come up with this rule that I can only buy 2 books per month and only if I have read some of the physical books that I already own, but this month was also my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend and you guessed it, I asked for books.

So I bought myself the following books:

Source: Goodreads

The Leaving by Tara Alterbrando - I was really interested in this book from the moment I read the synopsis and I knew I had to have it. I was a bit disappointed with the plot though. I will talk about it in dept in my review of it.

The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - The last book in this series ended with a major cliffhanger and I could not pass the opportunity to have it.

And my Boyfriend got me these:

A Cold Legacy by Megan Shepherd - I just need to finish this trilogy and see if Juliet becomes more annoying or not ahah

Hollow City and Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs - Because I need to catch up and finish the stupid amount of series that I started in the past 2 years. Also because the movie is out and I wanna read the entire series and be a bit critical about it.

Did you get any books this month? Have you read any of these? Let me know what you think of them.

Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door

Source: Goodreads

Title: Lola and the Boy Next Door
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Series: Anna and the French Kiss #2
Publisher: Usborne Publishing

My Rating:

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion... she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit – the more sparkly, more wild – the better. And life is pretty close to perfect for Lola, especially with her hot rocker boyfriend.

That is, until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket return to the neighbourhood and unearth a past of hurt that Lola thought was long buried. So when talented inventor Cricket steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally face up to a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. Could the boy from Lola's past be the love of her future?
